History In the early 1870's serveral people were meeting at the Leesville Academy for worship. They recognized the need to establish a church in the community. That goal was realized August 17th, 1874. They gathered together with the other neighboring churches and together named their Pastor Elder, T.W. Young. At this meeting, this newly formed church was named Leesville Baptist. The first Church Sexton (Upkeep Officer) was paid $6.00 per year. The first pastor's salary was $75.00 per year. Our historical data is limted from 1874 due in part to fire at the home of the Church clerk. The fire destroyed the church records that had been accumulated up to that point. The present day Educational Building was constructed as a church parsonage in 1955 and used as such until 1988. Our present church replaced our white wooden frame church in 1966. Final work on the building was completed one day prior to our dedication ceremony on Sunday, November 20th, 1966. Many people attended from the community other than church members. Chairs were placed down the center of the aisle to accomodate the overflowing gathering to witness the dedication of the new facility to the glory of God. The building committee of eleven was recognized at the dedication. We are thankful for two of those that remain faithful members of Leesville Baptist Church, J.T. Berry and E.H. Cross. It is with great anticipation that we enter into our 135th year, remembering the wonderful heritage and looking forward to serving our community and remaining the beacon and focal point of the Leesville community with a Christ Centered Church.
